Everything here is essential listening and while i would also like to see the original mix re released at some point separately this reissue is by no means worse off for not including it.

Limited to 300 copies. Heart of the congos c 1977 blood fire records. Luckily the album was professionaly remastered and re released on cd as the blood fire edition. Throughout the 30 day period the vinyl factory will be pressing limited edition vinyl on site on the vf press.

The congos recorded this edition as part of the original station to station which crossed north america by train from atlantic to pacific over 24 days in 2013. Cover features hand painted yellow stripes like the 1977 version. This 3xlp release of the black ark classic heart of the congos is an incredible reissue in my opinion. Now initially i was a bit put off by the sub par sound quality of the original release vinyl.

The opening track fisherman has very noticable drop outs and the album as a whole has various problems with eq and tape hiss. Jamaican vocal reggae band formed in the second half of the 1970s by cedric myton previously in the tartans and congo ashanti roy roydel johnson the group started recording at the black ark studios for lee perry who added watty burnett to the lineup to handle the deeper chords. On heart of the congos he was brilliant and across the record s original ten tracks perry created a masterpiece of music. The dropouts in fisherman especially bothered me.

Many critics consider this 1977 album one of the best roots records of all time and at the very least it was perry s apex only junior byles beat down babylon is an equal contender. The group splitted in the early 1980 s but reformed in the mid 1990 s. This is the remixed version of the album released in 1978. The congos roy johnson and cedric myton recorded what has become a landmark in roots reggae and the benchmark for all who came after when they collaborated with master producer lee perry at his black ark studio in kingston jamaica in 1977. Vp records reissued the original 1977 version in april 2017 heart of the congos. C4 to f3 are dubs disco mixes seven and twelve inch versions. I attempted remastering the album myself a few times but i was never quite happy with the results.
