Step 3 removing the loose siding.
Top row of siding loose.
This can cause panels to chip or crack if left unattended.
Proper vinyl siding maintenance helps preserve the look of your home while reducing heating and cooling costs.
Leave the kick out flashing loose and slide the first panel behind the flashing.
By using a vinyl siding removal tool you can guide loose panels back into place.
Use it to grab the locking edge of the loose panel and pull downward.
Without an additional layer of siding to cover it as it touches the soffit.
At the bottoms of windows install under sill trim for horizontal siding and j channel trim for vertical siding.
Overlap the flashing onto the row of siding just below the window.
When you reach the top row of siding you will need to measure and cut it to fit.
For most of the house this method works wonderfully except for the top row.
Cut out the damaged piece of siding leaving a space 2 inches shorter than the replacement piece.
To determine how much you will need to cut from the top of the panel measure the distance between the top of the under sill trim and the lock on the next panel down then subtract 1 4 inch 0 6 cm.
Use zip tool to disengage top of siding from the course above.
Pull the siding unlock tool down and it should bring the bottom of the siding panel come out.
Step 2 mark the length of vinyl where the cut needs to be made to achieve the correct fit.
At the same time use your hand to push the panel onto the upper locking edge of the panel beneath it.
Some adjustment may be needed to complete installation of the top row of siding.
For vertical siding install j channel trim.
You must leave the bottom edge of the vinyl intact so that it can be secured into the row of vinyl siding below it.
The hook on the tool grabs the locking edge at the bottom of each panel.
To repair you will need a siding removal tool that you can find at most home centers for about 5.
The hook simply needs to be placed under the edge of aluminum siding and then used to lift it out.
Pull siding away from house and cut through the bottom edge with aviation snips.
The entire structure of vinyl siding is based on overlapping sections with the attachment point on each row of siding covered by the one above it.
Install the top row of siding.
Now any water that runs inside the j channels will come out on top of the siding and out the weep holes designed for this purpose.
This will cause the loose panel to spring.
If the top is mitered miter the sides as well.
Lift up the course above and pull the nails holding siding to wall.
Step 1 measure the gap remaining at the top of the wall.
Then nail the flashing to the wall and lap the next piece over.
Over time vinyl siding panels can become loose.
For horizontal siding install f channel trim at the soffit and gable rake.
Install trim under eaves rakes.
